Metacon AB (publ) is an international energy technology company whose business idea is to commercialize small and large energy systems for the production of hydrogen, electricity and heat. The company is listed on Nordic Growth Market (NGM) MTF under the symbol “META”. Metacon was established 2011 in Sweden, and in 2013 Metacon acquired a majority interest in Helbio Holdings S.A., which owns 100% of Helbio S.A. Helbio has patented technology for cost-effective production of hydrogen from biogas or other hydrocarbons for fuel and energy consumption, through a catalyst process aimed at the transport sector, industry, commercial and residential real estate, with better impact on environment and climate. Helbio S.A., is a spin-off from University of Patra, Greece, and was founded by Professor Xenophon Verykios in 2001. The business has initially focused on catalysts and advanced reformers for high-efficiency production of hydrogen.
How many staff members are on the team currently & do you find it difficult to find quality local and international staff?
The group employs about 20 people in total.
Do any of the staff and or management team hold any shares within the company?
Yes, everyone in the management team holds shares within the company, this includes the CEO´s of our subsidiaries also.
During your time at the company, what's been your greatest achievement thus far?
When we fully subscribed the rights issue during the summer holiday season of 2018 and then successfully listed on the stock exchange in October 2018.
What sets your company apart from others within your industry?
We have catalyst process which operates at lower temperatures than in traditional steam reforming, whose reaction is endothermic and requires lots of energy. Metacon’s process requires less energy to break the chemical bonds and produce the hydrogen. Metacon may also produce the hydrogen locally via an existing infrastructure, by tapping directly into the gas pipelines.
Please share with us your favourite memory and or event since you joined the company?
The visit to Japan and signing a memorandum of understanding with the Japanese industrial group Futamura Chemical Co., Ltd. regarding a joint development of hydrogen based power generating systems for certain projects in Asia and Middle East.
Metacon has a unique position by offering proprietary technology that enables local and efficient conversion of hydrocarbons into hydrogen through so-called catalytic steam reforming. The ability to integrate the in-house developed reformer with fuel cells and other system components enables Metacon to offer turn-key plants and products.
Metacon offers the market products in following five areas:
– Hydrogen refueling stations with reformers
– Hydrogen generators for industrial applications
– Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems 50 – 300 kW
– Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems 1 – 5 kW
– Small power units that can replace portable power generators
